Product Specialist (Varennes, QC)

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Vice-president, Development and Product Support, the product specialist is an expert in specific maestro* modules and ensures the development of new functionalities that meet the market’s real needs. The product specialist needs to take ownership of the product and have a long-term vision.

The product specialist is in charge of targeting the market and writing user stories in a language understandable for the R&D team. The product specialist also provides detailed data and documentation essential to the comprehension of the improvements and functions in question.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Target the market;
  • Gather information on the target market, communicate and control the R&D business requirements;
  • Participate regularly in product management meetings with the R&D team;
  • Manage the modules’ roadmap information, such as key dates and lists of major functionalities;
  • Manage priorities based on the market’s actual needs and objectives;
  • Act as module expert both internally for Maestro’s different departments and externally (customers, prospects and partners);
  • Acquire a deep knowledge of the client experience (actual usage needs), identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas to increase market shares;
  • Maintain a regular communication with customers/prospects/ technical and commercial teams to reinforce the modules’ global offer;
  • Manage and monitor the prototyping activities and beta testing follow-ups;
  • Write high-level documentation on the modules’ functionalities;
  • Write user stories that allow the team to properly understand the expected results in order to plan the sprint details;
  • Collaborate with marketing resources to continually improve the efficiency of the solution presentations (demonstrations) and other marketing supports (brochures, functionality fact sheets, white papers, demos, videos, etc.);
  • Always be on the look-out for the competition’s strengths and weaknesses, looking for means to increase the product’s competitive advantage;
  • If required, participate in the implementation of modules with Professional Services.


  • College diploma or bachelor’s in a field related to the construction industry;
  • Five (5) years of experience in the service industry (heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry), an asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of the software industry and its processes;
  • Concrete knowledge of the target market (construction industry) and of the competition’s product offerings, an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills, both in English and French (spoken and written)
  • Excellent persuasion skills;
  • Analytical and very good listening skills for the customers’ needs;
  • Skills with the MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
